Acupressure Massage

What is Acupressure Massage?

Acupressure massage, also referred to as chair massage, is a hybrid of the ancient Oriental massage arts of Anma and Shiatsu.

It is a meridian based therapy in which thumb, finger, elbow and forearm pressure are used over many of the acupressure points on the 12 major meridean's accessible on the back, arms, hands, neck and scalp.

The technique helps to stimulate and balance the flow of energy, or life force (prana) throughout the body. In turn this can stimulate the circulatory, muscular, nervous, immune and lymphatic systems while promoting the release of endorphines.

It works on significant areas of the body, especially the neck and the shoulders where stress affects major muscle groups, and this treatment often brings immediate relief. Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules can melt away. The efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems can improve, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles and flexibility and fluidity of movement can be restored.

What to Expect?

~ The treatment generally starts with the client sitting in a massage chair, facing forwards with the head, chest and arms supported by the chair. The client remains fully clothed.

~ A variety of massage techniques are used, designed to relieve accumulated tension and fatigue, increase mental clarity and relax and rejuvenate the receiver. The treatment involves massage to the upper back, shoulders, arms, hands, neck and scalp.

~ Some of the massage techniques are quite vigorous and are extremely energising as well as deeply relaxing. The pressure applied is adjusted to suit the clients preferences.
